- HETROBACT (Mupirocin) is a prescription medicine used to treat the symptoms of Impetigo, skin infections, and MRSA colonization
- HETROBACT (Mupirocin) mediates its antibacterial activity by inhibiting the bacterial protein synthesis and formation of bacterial proteins essential for survival.
- HETROBACT (Mupirocin) is bacteriostatic at lower concentrations but it exerts bactericidal effects with prolonged exposure, killing 90-99% of susceptible bacteria over a 24 hour period.
The promising in vitro antibacterial activity of HETROBACT (Mupirocin) against
- Gram-positive Staphylococci, including methicillin-resistant S. aureus, (MRSA), the main causative microorganism of skin infections, drives its widespread use in prophylaxis and treatment of infections associated with skin, skin appendages and mucosal membranes
- Gram-negative microorganisms such as Haemophilus influenzae and Neisseria spp.
