About Lyceft 1Gm Injection

Lyceft 1 gm Injection contains Ceftriaxone Sodium 1000 mg, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic manufactured by Hetero Healthcare Limited. It works by inhibiting the formation of bacterial cell walls, leading to the destruction of disease-causing bacteria. Lyceft 1 gm Injection is prescribed for the short-term treatment of moderate to severe bacterial infections affecting the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, bones, joints, abdomen, and bloodstream. This is a prescription-only (Schedule H) medicine and must be administered strictly under medical supervision.

Usage Instructions

  • Lyceft 1 gm Injection is given through the veins only by a physician.
  • It is never self-administered at home.
  • The reconstituted solution is given as a slow intravenous injection, an intravenous infusion, or a deep intramuscular injection, depending on the infection and severity.
  • Dosage, frequency, and treatment duration are decided by the physician based on the patient's age, weight, and kidney function.
  • Always complete the full prescribed course.
  • Discontinuing the medication prematurely may worsen the infection.

Benefits and Use

  • Lyceft 1 gm Injection effectively treats a wide range of bacterial infections, including pneumonia and lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, intra-abdominal infections, meningitis, and septicaemia.
  • It is also used for surgical prophylaxis to prevent infections during and after operative procedures, and for treating gonorrhoea and tick-borne Lyme disease.
  • As a broad-spectrum cephalosporin, it remains effective against infections caused by Pseudomonas and other resistant bacterial species.

Safety Information

  • Pregnancy:
    Ceftriaxone 1000 mg should be used during pregnancy only if necessary and prescribed by a doctor, as adequate human safety data is limited. Inform your doctor immediately if you are pregnant before receiving this injection.
  • Breastfeeding:
    Ceftriaxone passes into breast milk in small amounts and should be used cautiously while nursing. Consult your doctor, who will weigh the benefits against potential risks to the infant before advising use.
  • Alcohol:
    No direct interaction between Ceftriaxone and alcohol has been found, but consuming alcohol during antibiotic treatment is generally not recommended. It is best to avoid alcohol until the treatment course is completed and recovery is confirmed.
  • Kidney Disorders:
    Patients with kidney impairment may require dose adjustment, as Ceftriaxone is partly eliminated through the kidneys. Inform your doctor if you have kidney disorders so renal function can be monitored during treatment.
  • Lung Disorders:
    No specific dose adjustment is generally required for patients with pre-existing lung conditions such as asthma or COPD.
