Description:

Polmacoxib is the first tissue specific selective COX-2 inhibitor indicated for the treatment of idiopathic osteoarthritis of hip and knee. It has a mechanism of action which involves dual inhibition of COX-2 enzymes and carbonic anhydrase (CA) I/II. The dual mode of action exhibited by polmacoxib is expected to minimize adverse cardiovascular effects while achieving maximum effectiveness in inflamed osteoarthritic joints. Polmacoxib has demonstrated superior efficacy to placebo and noninferior to celecoxib after 6 weeks. It has a long-term safety profile of 24 weeks.
